Michael P. Marcin

Michael Marcin was born in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Texas soon after.  Mike graduated from high school in the West Texas ranching community of Alpine, and remained in the Big Bend area to complete his studies in Geology at Sul Ross State University graduating magna cum laude with a B.S. degree in 1981.

Upon completion of his undergraduate work, Mr. Marcin accepted a position as an exploration geophysicist with the former Cities Service Oil and Gas Company that later became part of Occidental Petroleum Corporation.  As a geophysicist, Mike identified, promoted, and developed oil and gas prospects throughout the Texas and Louisiana coastal areas.  Additionally, he studied hydrology at the University of Houston, and in 1989, left the oil industry and began doing environmental consulting work for Groundwater Services, Inc., in Houston. From 1989 until 1992, he conducted hydro-geologic site investigations of industrial chemical facilities, performed RCRA facility investigations, and conducted environmental audits in Texas and Arkansas. During this period, Mike became a registered geologist in the States of Arkansas and Tennessee, 1989 - Present.

In the fall of 1992, Mr. Marcin began legal studies at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin and graduated in December of 1994.  While a law student, Mr. Marcin was an editor of the Texas Intellectual Property Law Journal, the recipient of the Wilbur L. Mathews Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Law, honored with the Earl Brown Award for Achievement in Natural Resource Law, and earned the Dean's Achievement Award in Oil and Gas Law.

During law school, Mr. Marcin gained experience as a summer associate in El Paso, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma.  While in Tulsa, Mr. Marcin co-authored a paper on oil and gas litigation that was later presented to the Oklahoma Bar Association Conference in September of 1994, and to a CLE program in October of the same year.

Mr. Marcin began work with Austin attorney, Jim Ray, after law school to practice general business litigation, administrative law, and condemnation work for various oil and gas producers and service companies in the Texas Panhandle.  In addition, Mr. Marcin has been involved in various local Austin matters including the preservation of the Manchaca baseball fields.  In 1998, Mike joined former Texas Supreme Court Justice Bob Gammage in forming the law firm of Gammage, Hampton, Marcin & Ray, L.L.P. where he worked as a partner until joining Cantilo & Bennett, L.L.P. in July of 2003.

Mr. Marcin is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Travis County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
